Far marked roads - and too busy - from academic, far footpaths dangerous modernism Pol Ledent continues to draw an original path. Favorite subject for this artist houyetois: nature, "the lively nature "we are tempted to write, since the expression still life is not really apply here.
The painter invites us to rediscover him corners of campaign we Pensions knowledge, and whose charms - too familiar? - we often had escaped. "How vain is painting that attracts admiration by the resemblance of things we do not admire the originals! "Pascal said, proving that, for great he was, he probably did not understand much about art." Here we are on the banks of the Lesse and the Meuse, in the depths of the woods, in some fallow the edge of a meadow on a hill overlooking a small hamlet ... Seasonal, painting Pol Ledent us to witness the explosion of spring fruit trees, hawthorn and broom, on a background of soft green. And here the summer: the light flashed across; color bursts into multiple spots. poppies, cornflowers , bluebells, cradles ... the humble wildflower mix their colors to delight our eyes. But already lavish promises fall : Under the artist's brush, foliage and sky colors are adorned with the most unexpected. Mists drowned the valleys, the clouds turn black, the snow starts to invade all: The winter is here!
It will be understood, the art of Pol Ledent, that specialists would call postimpressionist probably deserves the title of first romance, the best sense of the term, because it is aimed primarily the heart: without sentimentality or affectation, the artist gives free rein to a genuine sensitivity. Sensitivity and sensuality? The question deserves at least to be asked, as seems apparent attachment almost physically bears the painter to his subject.
Technically, if the dominant color and light, design, discreet, never absent, and one guesses, prior to the execution of the painting, a careful study of its composition. In short, the authenticity of his inspiration and the quality of his achievement, Pol Ledent's paintings are those that transcend the modes and are likely to go down to posterity. That's all the evil that we can wish him ...
